Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Mr V.K. Ebrahim Kunju of the Indian Union Muslim League on Thursday was sworn in as the new Industries Minister in the Oommen Chandy Cabinet.

The Governor, Mr R.L. Bhatia, administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new Minister at a simple ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan.

Mr Ebrahim Kunju replaces Mr P.K. Kunhalikkutty who had to resign in the face of protests over alleged involvement in a sex scandal.

The new Minister will look after the Industries and Social Welfare portfolios.

Information technology, which used to be the preserve of Mr Kunhalikkutty during his tenure as Minister, has been retained with the Chief Minister.
