Building designers' plea

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Building Designers Organisation has urged the Central and the State Governments and the local bodies to take effective steps for checking the construction of buildings in violation of rules in the coastal areas.

Mr Kaudiar Harikumar, President, and Mr Mahesh K. Pillai, Secretary, said here that that licence should be granted only if construction activity was confined within a 500-metre zone. This would go a long way in ensuring that loss of life will be limited in the event of sea-borne natural calamities. They also demanded the dismantling of buildings already constructed without obtaining the local bodies permission.
