Hyderabad , Jan. 6 THE South Central Railway (SCR) has achieved a total originating income of Rs 2,336 crore during the ninth-month period of the current fiscal, against a target of Rs 2,233 crore. This is Rs 225 crore more than last year's revenue in the same period. Speaking to newspersons, Mr T. Stanley Babu, General Manager of SCR, said that the zone carried 4.5 million tonnes of freight more during the period than in the corresponding period last year, recording the best ever incremental loading achieved in its history. It also recorded an originating freight load of 36.1 million against a target of 34.4 million. With regard to passenger segment, the SCR earned Rs 734 crore against Rs 694 crore in the same period last year. Linking important towns of the State with the Capital, the Railways would shortly launch the AP Sampark Kranti Express from Tirupati to Hazrat Nizamuddin. The route would dot towns like Gooty, Kurnool, Dronachalam and Mahaboobnagar. Mr Velu, Minister of State for Railways, would flag off the train on January 12. The SCR has some good news for the cement industry and exporters. Mr Stanley Babu said that a proposal had been sent to the Railway Board to take up the 114-km Obulavaripalle-Krishnapatnam project. "We can hope for a new line in the current Budget itself," he added. There is also a proposal to take up the 56.65-km Vishnupuram-Jaggayyapet line. "This will give a boost to the cement industry." The gauge conversion works on the Manoharabad-Nizamabad line would be completed by April 1. This would allow the Railways to improve connectivity to Mumbai. To make the journey more enjoyable, the zone recently introduced on-board audio system on the Secunderabad-Vijayawada Inter-city express. "We are going to introduce this in five more trains shortly," Mr Stanley Babu said. The SCR has also earmarked Rs 35 crore for improving passenger amenities. The SCR General Manager said he would hold a meeting with MPs from the State later this month.
