Rubber moves in a narrow range

Our Correspondent

Kottayam , Jan. 7

THE market activities plunged into a low key due to the absence of quantum buyers and sellers. Rubber prices moved in a narrow range on scattered transactions.

The trend was mixed as RSS 4 and Ungraded slipped while the other major grades closed static. Neither the covering purchases nor fresh buying was prominently visible in the main marketing centres and the inflow of the raw material to the village markets was also disappointing.

Sheet rubber weakened to Rs 54.00 from Rs 54.25 a kg at Kottayam, steady at Rs 54.00 a kg at Kochiand, Kozhikode. The NMCE futures was almost steady quoting the January contract at Rs 53.98 against Rs 54.06 a kg on Friday.

The near month February contract was quoted at Rs 55.00 (54.10), March at Rs 55.81 (56.19) and April at Rs 57.36 (57.48) per kg for RSS 4.

At TOCOM the February futures for RSS 3 closed slightly better at 124.8 yen a kg against 124.5 yen on Thursday.

The spot rubber rates on Friday were: RSS 4 Rs 54 (54.25); RSS 5 Rs 52.25 (52.25); ungraded Rs 50.75 (51); ISNR 20 Rs 52.25 (52.25); latex 60% Rs 41 (41).
