KMML meet to focus on industry and environment

THE Kollam-based Kerala Minerals and Metals Ltd (KMML) is organising a one-day seminar titled `Coexistence of industry and environment — issues and solutions' in the city on January 10.

Announcing this at a press conference in the city today, Mr G. Sashi, Joint General Manager, KMML, said that the conference would be held at the Rajiv Gandhi Convention Centre at Kovalam near Thiruvananthapuram. The seminar organisers hope the event will serve as a forum to discuss various environmental problems facing the State, and also find solutions to some of these problems, he added.

The Kerala Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, is scheduled to inaugurate the seminar, while the State's Industries Minister, Mr V.K. Ebrahim Kunju, will preside over the inaugural session. Dr D.B. Boralkar, Member Secretary, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address during the inaugural session.

Eleven papers will be presented during the technical sessions of the seminar, said Mr Sashi. The presentations include topics such as environmental impact assessment, pollution control measures for the chemical industryand municipal waste management, Mr Sashi added.
