Kodak bullish on health imaging business in India

Nithya Subramanian

New Delhi , Jan. 7

EASTMAN Kodak Company is bullish about the health imaging business in India. Setting up a research and development (R&D) centre in the country as well as expanding its existing manufacturing facility are part of the growth plans.

Speaking to Business Line, Mr Dan Kerpelman, President, Health Imaging, Eastman Kodak, said, "At present, we have an R&D Centre in Shanghai, China, in the Asia-Pacific region. When we reach enough scale to cover the investments we will set up a research site in India too." He was, however, not willing to give a time frame for this.

Eastman Kodak is represented through Kodak India Ltd in India and the portfolio of the health imaging division consists of the latest in X-ray films, laser films and printers for CT and MRI scans.

The company has a facility in Goa for manufacturing medical films. However, depending on the growing market need, the capacities would be expanded. "We manufacture digital products in China and we are leveraging the Chinese facility for India too," Mr Kerpelman said.
