Alternative Medicines Herbalife begins clinical trials on nutritional supplements Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Jan. 7 AIMED at making global consumers more comfortable with its nutritional supplements and give its products portfolio a science-based status, Herbalife International, the US-based $2-billion network marketing company offering a range of weight management products and nutritional supplements, has initiated clinical trials. Disclosing this at a press conference here on Thursday, the Herbalife International Senior Vice-President (Asia-Pacific), Mr John Purdy, said though clinical trials were not at all required under the USFDA norms for the nutritional supplements, the company has been involving scientists, doctors and scientific advisors for clinical trials at California for the last couple of years. According to him, the company began clinical trials on its most successful formula-1 product in the US and is also looking at initiating clinical trials in Korea. "Though we have innumerable testimonials from the users of our products, we expect the clinical trials validity to substantially enhance the confidence levels of consumers and make them even more comfortable with our products," Mr Purdy said. Mr Purdy was here to inaugurate the fifth sales centre of Herbalife International in the country, which was meant for increased convenience to over 20,000 distributors involved in the network marketing in Andhra Pradesh. The company currently has four sales centres in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore. Herbalife has completed five years of presence in India and has achieved a cumulative sales turnover of Rs 400 crore, Mr Purdy said. Stating that India has been Herbalife's focussed market in the Asian region, he said the company was excited about its performance and growth potential in this market. According to the Country Director of Herbalife, Mr Manoj Shirodkar, the company has so far invested more than $3-million in infrastructure, product development and manpower training in the country.
