DELHI Public School Society (DPS) is willing to join hands with State Governments to run schools, according to Mr Narendra Kumar, Chairman of DPS.
Speaking to newspersons today after announcing the launch of DPS Newtown at Rajarhat, Kolkata, Mr Kumar said that DPS had already partnered with State Government-run schools in Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana with a view to facilitating the spread of education.
DPS would be keen on working with other State Governments for spreading education through the State-run schools network.
"We are prepared to share the facilities and knowledge that we have with State Government-run schools. This will be on an at-cost basis. We do not accept any financial assistance from the Government," he said, adding that, ideally, all public sector schools should be associated with Government-run schools in one form or the other.
However, such a mechanism could be put in place only in the towns and urban centres.
As regards reaching out to rural areas, it would have to be based on scientific, distance-mode education. "This is because it is difficult to find teachers of high calibre there. To overcome this handicap, we rely on satellite-based education."
According to him, DPS was a non-profit organisation with nearly 130 schools spread across several countries such as India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and West Asia. It was focused on imparting uniform, school-level education. A franchisee model is followed for expansion of the DPS footprint globally.
