New Delhi , Jan. 7

THE board of Indian Airlines (IA), which met here on Thursday, has approved a proposal for leasing six ATR 42-320 aircraft and for extending the operations of the airline to 18 new destinations, including Agatti, Gwalior, Ludhiana, Kanpur, Dehradun and Nashik.

Recommendations for extending the operations of the airline to these new destinations with the ATR 42-320 aircraft was made by a Committee of Officers nominated to study the feasibility of extending operations to some more short sector routes.

This proposal was accepted by the IA board at its meeting.

The ATR 42-320 aircraft will be used by Alliance Air, the 100 per cent subsidiary of IA. Incidentally, the airline already operates the ATR 42-320 aircraft. The ATR aircraft are to be based in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata.

The board was also apprised of the selection of software for the Automated Revenue Management System (ARMS), which the airline plans to install. ARMS is a computerised decision support tool for maximising flight revenues by optimising seat inventories for various classes on the basis of forecast of demand on fare class basis.

IA, in keeping with international airline practices, too has decided to switch over from its current yield management system to the ARM system.
