Bank credit up Rs 13,643 cr

GROSS bank credit in the system has surged by Rs 13,643 crore for the fortnight ended December 24, 2004, to touch Rs 10,27,009 crore according to the weekly statistical supplement of the Reserve Bank of India.

This is inclusive of food credit, which rose by Rs 586 crore to Rs 43,779 crore and non-food credit which rose by Rs 13,058 crore to touch Rs 9,83,229 crore.

During this period, total accommodation provided by scheduled commercial banks to the commercial sector in the form of bank credit and investments in shares, debentures, bonds, commercial paper etc, increased by Rs 1,80,450 crore to touch Rs 10,74,564 crore.

Loans and advances to state governments rose by Rs 820 crore to touch Rs 3,037 crore for the week-ended December 31,2004.

Year-on-year money supply was at 13.1 per cent.
