Tea Tea prices spurt at Kochi auction Our Bureau
Kochi , Jan. 9 A GOOD general demand resulted in the spurting of prices of almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction. Of the quantity of 10,15,000 kg on offer in the dust category, good liquoring CTCs were steady. Others were easier by Rs 1-2. Bolder CTCs witnessed less demand, while orthodox highgrown was medium steady to dearer. According to details made available by Forbes, Ewart and Figgis Pvt Ltd, the best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 55 and Rs 65, medium CTC realised Rs 51-54 and below medium were quoted Rs 42-46. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 65 and Rs 89, while medium BOPD realised Rs 40-42. Secondaries were quoted at Rs 34-39. The leaf sale also witnessed a good general demand and the quantity on offer was 4,59,000 kg. Ordinary bolder brokens and primary grades steady. Smaller orthodox grades were easier, while good medium CTC smaller brokens and fannings barely steady. Others easier by Rs 1-2. CIS exporters were fairly active. Highgrown primary grades absorbed by other exporters. The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 65 and Rs 85, medium orthodox realised Rs 42-66. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 50 and Rs 54, while medium CTC leaf realised Rs 44-47. In the dust category, Kodanaad Cl BOPD realised the best prices of Rs 89 followed by Pasuparai SFD by Rs 87. In the leaf varieties, Havukal CLBOP fetched the best prices of Rs 108 followed by both Chamraj OP and Kodanad CLBOP by Rs 91.
