Infomedia scouting for BPO acquisition

New Delhi , Jan. 9

INFOMEDIA India, an information services firm, has identified the BPO and the B2B publications segment as potential growth generators and charted out aggressive plans in both the segments.

The company is currently scouting for acquisitions in the BPO arena and is in the process of shortlisting such firms involved in the publications business.

"We see huge potential in this segment as firms globally outsource activities such as pagemaking, editing, book work, and so on to save on costs," Mr Prakash Iyer, Managing Director, said.

"This is a very manpower intensive segment and the cost savings arising from outsourcing for international firms would be significant.

Already, BPOs in this arena with workforce of about 200-300 people are able to generate revenues of Rs 40-50 crore."

Most of these BPOs are currently located in cities such as Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Chandigarh, and Pune among others, which have a sizeable English-speaking workforce. Infomedia would be funding its acquisition through internal accruals.

Meanwhile, Infomedia is looking to double the number of B2B publications in its portfolio to 12 in the next couple of years. "There is huge opportunity in this segment. We are looking to further fine-tune our offerings in the engineering and chemicals space and come up with focused publications for particular industry groups," Mr Iyer said.

The Rs 125-crore Infomedia is 70 per cent owned by ICICI Ventures and the rest by the public. According to Mr Iyer, the company's magazines have seen a growth of over 30 per cent while the directories business has also seen double-digit growth in the past year.
