Rlys to outsource non-core activities

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Jan. 10

AS part of its internal reforms programme, the Railway Ministry plans to "right size" the department and outsource non-core activities to increase efficiency.

The Railways would deal mainly with core activities of a national transport organisation in line with its responsibilities, both as a commercial transport organisation and a vehicle for social change, informed an official release on Monday.

Other reforms include the creation of focused business organisations for activities outside the Railways' core competence and listing, modifying and implementing non-core activities through outsourcing.

The implementation of the reforms programme is being monitored on a regular basis. The reforms will lead to improved costing of services and the accounting system as well as enhanced efficiency.
