Vasant Kumar quits Madura Garments

Our Bureau

Bangalore , Jan. 10

THERE is more churn in Madura Garments, the country's largest branded apparel company. Mr M. Vasant Kumar who spearheaded the marketing and sales functions of popular brands has quit.

He is moving to Dubai-based Landmark Group, which owns the Indian retail chain, LifeStyle.

Mr Kumar is leaving Madura Garments after a nine-year stint and has played a key role under the stewardship of at least three presidents who managed the company since the late 90s — Mr George Zacharias, Mr Prakash Nedungadi and the current incumbent, Mr Hemachandra Javeri. In the last few years, his main role was in navigating one of Madura's biggest brands, Peter England, through troubled waters.

It is learnt that he may be part of the Landmark Group's new retail initiative in India. When contacted, Mr Kumar confirmed that he was joining Landmark Group but did not divulge more details about his future assignment.
