Chidambaram urges students to chip in for society, research

Coimbatore , Jan. 10

WHILE hailing the Indian intellectual prowess and knowledge, the Union Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, advised the student community to visualise the future on a broad perspective.

"Do not miss opportunities. Give up the self-centric or narrow approach and work for the society at large," he told the students after inaugurating the TCE Techo Park at the Tamil Nadu College of Engineering (TCE) at Karumathampatti near Coimbatore.

Mr Chidambaram wished that at least 10 per cent of the student community returned to the university either to pursue further studies or for research or for a career in teaching. He compared the facilities of yesteryears with the present and said, "We should try and give something more than what we got from the society." He encouraged students to aspire to become entrepreneurs. "It may or may not happen, but you should never give up your attempts at trying," he said.
