THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Mr Adoor Prakash, has said that the State Civil Supplies Department will not accept low quality rice from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) depots for public distribution.

The Minister told presspersons here that he had issued directives in this regard at a conference attended by officials of both the department and the FCI here recently.

Free rations (5 kg a week for four weeks) had been given to nearly three lakh families, the Minister said. Another 33,378 families had been selected and they will start getting the rations soon. Free rations were being distributed in 153 villages in nine districts.
