Eli Lilly cuts insulin prices

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Jan. 11

WITH increasing competition in the anti-diabetes segment, Eli Lilly and Company [India] Pvt Ltd has reduced the price of its 100 IU/ml range of Huminsulin vials [Human Insulin-r DNA origin].

The company had earlier cut prices on its 40 IU injections of insulin at the start of 2003.

With an over 20 per cent price reduction, each vial of Huminsulin 100 IU/ml will now be cheaper by almost Rs 100, thus making it more affordable.

These vials are especially suited for patients on high dose of insulin because for such patients, higher concentration in a vial means lesser volume to be injected, resulting in ease and convenience of administration.

In an official statement, Mr Rajiv Gulati, Chairman and Managing Director, Eli Lilly India, said, "Carrying the social responsibility of being the no. 1 diabetes care company in the world, we have constantly taken initiatives to battle this silent killer, the price reduction of 100 IU/ml insulin is another step in that direction."

Eli Lilly's initiatives in the past include programmes to raise awareness and understanding of the disease among both patients and healthcare professionals and a `unique' patient service programme called HumaCare.
