Airlines Air Deccan to add more destinations Ashwini Phadnis
New Delhi , Jan. 11 AIR travellers from the southern and other parts of India can look forward to more flexibility in getting lower rate tickets, with the country's only low-cost airline, Air Deccan, all set to not only add more flights but also more destinations to its route network. The airline will get two more Airbus A-320s next month, which will be stationed at Hyderabad and Kolkata, respectively. The Air Deccan Managing Director, Captain G.R. Gopinath, told Business Line that the two brand new aircraft would be deployed to launch flights on the Kolkata-Delhi and Kolkata-Mumbai sectors, apart from enhancing connectivity between various cities, including the Bangalore-Delhi sector. The aircraft are being acquired from Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise (SALE). Besides, the airline will also place the smaller ATR aircraft in Kolkata to launch operations into the north-eastern parts of the country. "We will look at launching routes such as Kolkata-Jamshedpur and Kolkata-Guwahati, apart from linking other destinations in the north-eastern parts of the country. We will also look at connecting cities in central India," Capt Gopinath said. The launch of flights to new destinations and expanding the connectivity in existing destinations will see the airline offer fares which are lower than the prevalent ones offered by the competing airlines. "On every flight which is started, be it a connection to a new city or expansion of existing operations, we will offer fares which are lower than existing market levels," Capt Gopinath said. Airline officials added that a large percentage of seats on offer would be within the price band of Rs 500 to Rs 2,500. Air Deccan, which has a fleet of Airbus A-320s and ATR aircraft, started operating on the trunk routes with its Airbus aircraft in August last year.
