Facelift for major districts roads in Karnataka

Our Bureau

MANGALORE: A workshop on `scientific re-modification of major district roads' will be held in Mangalore on Thursday, according to the Superintending Engineer of Public Works Department, Mangalore Circle, Mr Guruprasad.

He told presspersons here that 450.18 km of village roads in Mangalore Circle — including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu districts — have been upgraded to the status of major district roads.

As many as 105 major district roads in the State have been upgraded to the status of state highways based on the 2001 Lucknow Declaration of Indian Road Congress and on a report of the Nanjundappa committee to redress regional imbalances. He said that Rs 16 crore has been sanctioned for Manglore circle to carry out road works under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development.
