CMC net down 15 pc in Q3

AN overall pressure on margins has resulted in a 14.86 per cent drop in net profit of CMC Ltd for the third quarter ended December 31, 2004; net profit for the quarter stood at Rs 9.28 crore as against Rs 10.89 crore during the corresponding year-ago quarter.

A decline in revenues of the customer services business unit led to total revenues for the quarter, at Rs 205.23 crore, showing only marginal growth of 1.7 per cent, said a news release from the company.

"Despite an increase of 22 per cent in the revenue of Systems Integration SBU from Rs 50.69 crore to Rs 62.25 crore, the overall revenue growth has been marginal due to decline in revenue from Customer Services SBU from Rs 138.72 crore to Rs 129.70 crore," said the release.

Profit before tax for the quarter amounted to Rs 10.5 crore (Rs 16.4 crore) with tax amounting to Rs 1.63 crore (Rs 6.1 crore).

For the nine-month period ended December 31, 2004, net profit grew to Rs 39.78 crore (Rs 27.45 crore).

Revenues from sales for the period amounted to Rs 567 crore (Rs 544 crore).
