THE mother of the late Manu Chhabria, Ms Ranibhai Rajaram Chhabria, has served legal notice to all the bidders for Shaw Wallace & Co (SWC)'s liquor business, which is on the block, cautioning them against entering into any deal.

The notice is served through legal firm J. Sagar Associates, and it reads: "Our client is the mother of the late Manohar R. Chhabria (Manu). It further states: "We hereby put to you on notice that any discussions/ negotiations/offers made by you for the purchase of Shaw Wallace Distilleries can only be done with our client's consent, and any purchase or agreement to purchase the same without our client's consent will expose you to such legal action available to our client entirely at your risk as to the cost and consequences there of." The notice has been served to the serious bidders for SWC liquor business, including United Breweries (UB), Mr Ramesh Vangal-controlled Mason & Summers Alcobev Pvt Ltd, Mr Puneet Bhatia of Newbridge Financial Advisor Pvt Ltd (Mr Vangal and Newbridge are joint bidders) and Kyndal India Pvt Ltd, the domestic trading arm of UK-based Scotch whisky major, Whyte & Mackay.
