MADURAI: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) will bear the expenses incurred in training trainers for providing counselling to fishermen affected by the tsunami, especially children and women, the Nabard Assistant General Manager, Mr P. Sadasivam, said.

At Nagercoil recently, Mr Sadasivam said proposals for the purpose could be forwarded to Nabard by NGOs and representatives of self-help groups. Family members of fishermen who wish to seek alternative employment will be given training under the Rural Entrepreneur Development Programme, he said.

He also said the Nabard Chairman, Mrs Ranchana Kumar, had forwarded a request to the Chairman of Indian Bankers Association to waive the bank loans of those who were killed by the tsunami, sources said.
