Roadways High security number plates proposed Our Bureau
Pune , Jan. 19 THE Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has proposed that by June, all vehicles hitting the market should have high security registration plates (HSR) while the existing vehicles would be given a grace period of two years to come into this fold. The introduction of such a licence plate is to improve security and assist law-enforcing authorities in tackling road-related crimes, said Mr Balraj Bhanot, President ARAI. These plates are tamper-proof and cannot be easily removed or replaced, he said. Mr Balraj pointed out that the present system lacks standardisation and is easy to counterfeit. The new system attempts to bring uniformity by adopting standard sizes and uniform colour scheme. Another security feature is thechromium-based hologram embedded on the number plate by hot-stamping process, which is technically difficult to reproduce. Once embedded into the sheeting, the holograms show a different pattern and colour depending upon the angle of viewing and lighting, he said.
