Arts & Crafts Lepakshi expo begins in Kochi Our Bureau

Kochi , Jan. 20 Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd, as part of its programme of exhibition, has opened a 10-day Lepakshi exhibition-cum-sales of handicrafts and handlooms here. "This programme is mainly aimed at popularising the traditional handicrafts of Andhra Pradesh and help in improving the earnings of the artisans," said senior official of the Lepakshi. He said that as many as 45 artisans were pursuing various crafts representing different parts of the State. They would exhibit and sell their products directly to the customers. A special discount of 10 per cent on handicrafts and 20 per cent on textiles are allowed to the customers, he said. Softwood toys and dolls from Etikoppaka villages, puppets and lampshades in leather, metal castings and artware in brass carvings in wood, ceramic and terracotta pottery, crochet laces and silver jewellery are some of the traditional art forms of the State that find place in the exhibition, he said. Traditional textile varieties in saree and dress material from Mangalagiri, Narayanpet, Siddipet etc, a part from exclusive collection of sarees from Gadwal, Venkatagiri, tie and dye weavings of Pochampalli etc, are highlights of the show, he added.
