Kochi , Jan. 21

PUNJAB National Bank has initiated steps to give more thrust to retail lending and agriculture sector in the State in the coming years, Mr R.S. Pillai, the bank's Ernakulam Regional Manager, has said.

Speaking at the customers' meet and retail lending camp here, he said that similar camps would be held in different parts of the State.

He also disbursed sanction letters to more than 115 beneficiaries amounting to Rs 8.42 crore at the function. The next three camps would be held in Palakkad next week, he added.

According to Mr Pillai, the bank had already posted specialist officers in the tsunami affected area to gather information and initiate assistance for the welfare of the affected community.

A decision in this regard comes in the wake of discussions held between the State Government and bankers at Thiruvananthapuram recently.
