Our Bureau

New Delhi , Jan 21

THE Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) has proposed a 7-point strategy to the Government for setting up greenfield airports development projects so as to allow proper traffic and cargo growth in the domestic civil aviation sector.

In a representation madeto the Government, the Assocham President, Mr Mahendra K. Sanghi, suggested that capital goods, equipment and spare parts purchased or contracted by greenfield airport development companies during construction and operation stages should be allowed to be imported at zero-customs duty.

Similarly, procurement of environmental and energy conservation devices purchased or contracted by greenfield airport development companies while commissioning such projects should also be permitted to be brought in at zero duty.

Mr Sanghi demanded that the in order to give the promoters of airport projects a "Deemed Export Status", will help them avail of certain benefits of equipment exports, therefore in the forthcoming Budget proposals, the Finance Minister should favourably address this issue.

Those who commission such projects, should also be accorded central sales tax and excise duties exemptions on aviation fuel and other lubes used and supplied in the airport, the Chamber demanded.
