Vizianagaram , Jan. 21 THE Governor, Mr Sushil Kumar Shinde, is in favour of resumption of dialogue between the State Government and naxalites. The Governor, on a day's visit to Vizianagaram, participated in several programmes. He told reporters that there had only been a temporary halt in the talks and he expressed the hope that the dialogue would be resumed soon to pave the way for lasting peace in the State. He said naxalism was a problem faced by four to five States in the country and Andhra Pradesh, being one of them, had taken the right initiative in starting a dialogue with naxalites and addressing the underlying socio-economic issues. He gave a call to the Maoists to join the mainstream. At a function after distributing assets worth Rs 59 lakh to the self-help groups of women, he said the emphasis should be on providing self-employment opportunities to the youth, especially tribals, and women in rural areas. "To a large extent, this will help in curbing extremist tendencies,'' he said.
