Nalco net almost doubles to Rs 306 crore; to pay 20% interim

NATIONAL Aluminium Company Ltd (Nalco), the leading manufacturer and exporter, has posted a net profit of Rs 306.07 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2004 against Rs 167.09 crore earned during the corresponding period last year.

According to the press release issued by the company, the unaudited financial results were taken on record at the board meeting here on Friday.

The sales turnover during the quarter recorded an increase of 52.48 per cent to Rs 1,171.95 crore over the corresponding period figure of Rs 768.57 crore last year.

This, the release added, was the highest ever quarterly growth in profit and sales turnover in the history of the company.

The cumulative net profit of the company during the first nine months amounted to Rs 800.60 crore from Rs 472.60 crore in the previous year. The sales turnover amounted to Rs 3,125.56 crore from Rs 2,298.08 crore.

The company declared an interim dividend of 20 per cent, amounting to Rs 128.86 crore.

It also reported improved production of alumina and aluminium during the nine-month period.

Alumina production increased to 11.60 lakh tonne from 11.36 lakh tonnes and aluminium metal production rose to 2.48 lakh tonnes from 2.23 lakh tonnes.
