Ethnic chic

K.K. Mustafah

Terracotta ornaments on display in Jewel City, Thrissur. The sale, first of its kind in the State, began last week.

The ornaments are entirely handmade by craftsmen from villages near Bangalore. Shopkeepers claim that most of the customers are elites who favour traditional and ethnic patterns for a change. It is yet to catch the fancy of the masses due to short durability and the cost, which ranges from Rs 190 to 2,000 for a necklace and from Rs 30 to 200 for a pair of earrings.
