Kerala: Call to revert to farming

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Agriculture Minister, Ms K.R. Gouri, has asked the media to motivate the people to take up cultivation as a means of livelihood. Inaugurating a three-day workshop on "Agriculture and the media" organised here by the Farm Information Bureau (FIB), the Minister said that the agriculture sector offered several job opportunities.

The State, she said, has more or less succeeded in bringing the agricultural land under the ownership control of the farmers. But agriculture practices being followed here were entirely different from those in other States. Cash crops, which earned significant foreign exchange for the country, had come to dominate the farming sector in the State.
