Visakhapatnam , Jan. 23

THE Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) wants tax holidays continued even after the implementation of VAT from April 1.

At a press meet here on Saturday, Mr O.P Goenka, President of FAPCCI, said that the Government was agreeable to tax deferment, but it would not serve the purpose. ``We have represented to the Government that several units will be affected and are hopeful of a positive response,'' he said.

He said the federation had formulated a draft industrial policy, 2005, and submitted it to the Government. The sub-committee would have to finalise it.

He said FAPCCI would construct houses for the tsunami victims in the State. Further, it had requested all the members to contribute one-year additional subscription as their contribution for the cause.

For the benefit of people in some districts such as Nalgonda, Warangal and Anantapur, facing the fluoride problem, FAPCCI was supplying de-fluorinated and softened drinking water. A plant had been set up in the districts for the purpose.

He said FAPCCI was opposed to the proposal for introducing reservations in the private sector too and it had conveyed its opinion to the Government.
