Farmers in distress

Farmers winnowing paddy at Kanjany near Thrissur. Kerala farmers are facing a crisis as paddy prices are ruling at Rs 550-Rs 600 a quintal, below the Rs 740/quintal-rate fixed by the Government. This is since the State agencies and co-operative societies have withdrawn from procurement due to lack of storage facilities.
