THE annual Plan of Chhattisgarh for 2005-06 has been fixed at Rs 4,275 crore at a meeting here on Monday between the Planning Commission, Deputy Chairman, Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, and the State Chief Minister, Mr Raman Singh.
In his preliminary remarks, Dr Ahluwalia underlined the need for more efforts by the State in the realm of literacy and primary health, while lauding the State for the steps being taken in the area of horticulture, irrigation and dairy development.
He also suggested reforms in the power sector and in the implementation of social sector schemes.
He said diversification in agriculture and employment schemes for rural and tribal people should be considered on a priority basis.
Briefing the Commission about the programmes and schemes of the State Government, Mr Raman Singh said that the State is maintaining a positive Balance from Current Revenue since its inception.
It has maintained a relatively lower level of public debt and has sought special assistance for its sound fiscal management.
He also asked for an increase in the Central allocation for the tribal sub-plan in view of the very large tribal population and a special package to combat the problems of extremism in the State.
