Engineering L&T net up 30 pc in third quarter on higher sales Our Bureau
Mumbai , Jan. 24 LARSEN & Toubro has reported a 30 per cent increase in net profit and a 32 per cent increase in gross sales for the quarter ended December 31, 2004. Net profit for the quarter amounted to Rs 132.35 crore against Rs 101.80 crore reported for the corresponding year-ago quarter. Gross sales amounted to Rs 3,268 crore (Rs 2,481 crore) and other income stood at Rs 83.56 crore (Rs 43.44 crore). Total expenditure at Rs 3,093.45 crore (Rs 2,253.34 crore), rose 37 per cent, largely due to increased raw material costs and increased sub-contracting charges. Net interest rose to Rs 14.13 crore (Rs 9.37 crore).Profit before tax showed a 27 per cent increase, rising to Rs 187 crore (Rs 147 crore). The engineering and construction (E&C) segment contributed the bulk of revenues, at Rs 2,821 crore (Rs 2,086 crore) which showed a 35 per cent increase. This segment reported order bookings of Rs 3,161 crore during the quarter, with total order booking for the nine-month period at Rs 7,853 crore. The electric and electronics segment too witnessed increased revenues, at Rs 311 crore (Rs 249 crore), rising 24 per cent. However, "other" segments' revenues were almost static at Rs 182.29 crore. The E&C revenues are expected to report a growth of around 35 per cent, and the electrical and electronics segment, a revenue growth of 25 per cent for the year, said a statement from the company. E&C margins are expected to show good improvement in the last quarter in spite of substantial increase in input costs; the operating margin of the electricals and electronics segment is expected to be marginally better than the previous year, it said.
