CIE to expand presence

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: The University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), a UK-based assessments and qualifications organisation, has decided to expand its presence in India.

According to Mr Mark Bartholomew, CIE's Regional Manager for South Asia, the organisation plans to increase the number of schools with CIE tag and from 120 now, it would go up to 150 by year-end. It planned to take the number to 500 by the year 2009.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, he said the certification was being accepted globally, including the All-India Association of Universities.

There were 7,000 CIE schools in the world, barring the UK. A school should have a well-stocked library, laboratories, information technology backbone with Internet connectivity and, more importantly, staff interested in students in teaching.
