MORE than 300 devotees were killed and 200 injured in a stampede at the Mandaradevi temple in the outskirts of Wai in Satara district, Maharashtra on Tuesday afternoon.

The tragedy occurred on `Shakambhari Poornima', the most auspicious day for the darshan of Mandaradevi, which also coincided with Tuesday.

The Satara Additional Divisional Commissioner, Mr Vishwajit Mane, when contacted, said that the dead bodies of the victims have now been brought to the hospitals in Wai town where doctors are also tending to those injured.

The district collectorate has formed teams of the 25-odd Government and private medical practitioners who have been despatched with emergency medical supplies and oxygen cylinders to the site.
