A promising year for aviation sector: Report

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Jan. 25

THE annual outlook report of the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation says that 2005 holds "promise" of being the year when Indian aviation will finally come of age.

According to the report, the year will see a number of significant developments, including the possibility of the new civil aviation policy being released early in the year and the country's airlines placing orders for up to 200 aircraft over the next 12 months.

The report was released on Monday at the Asia, Pacific and Middle East Aviation and Tourism Outlook 2005 conference in Singapore.

However, the centre has warned that the continued strong growth, such as the 25-30 per cent rise in domestic traffic during 2004, will place increased pressure on the already congested airports and swell demand for skilled labour, including pilots.

"Inadequate infrastructure may prove to be a constraint for growth.

"A buoyant market will attract new entrants as well as increase capacity by incumbent carriers. Fierce competition and inexperienced management are likely to lead to some failures along the way," the report says.
