Oceanic survey urged in Kanyakumari

Our Correspondent

MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Maritime Board has requested Indomer Coastal Hydraulic Private Ltd to carry out an oceanic survey to determine whether any changes such as formation of sand dunes and obstructions in the sea have occurred following the tsunami devastation of the coast in Kanyakumari.

The survey to be carried out on January 31 will help clear the sea route from the shore to the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and the Tiruvalluvar statue so that ferry service could be resumed, according to Mr K. Ramdoss, Secretary, Department of Information and Tourism.

Speaking to presspersons at Nagercoil, recently, Mr Ramadoss said a detailed report would be submitted to the Government following the survey.

A trial run, however, would be made on February 1 and ferry services would be resumed in the first week, he added.
