Karnataka to discuss common entrance test for pvt colleges

THE Karnataka Government will discuss issues related to admission through common entrance test (CET) with managements of private professional colleges in Bangalore on Friday.
In an informal chat with presspersons here on Tuesday, the Minister for Higher Education, Mr D. Manjunath, said that the recent Education Ministers' conference had favoured a central legislation to govern admission to professional colleges. However, central legislation is not likely to materialise before the commencement of next academic year.
Considering this, the Government has begun the process for CET for the next academic year, and decided to hold meeting with the managements of private professional colleges. Issues such as seat sharing and fee structure are likely to be discussed at the meeting, he said.
Six government medical colleges with an intake of 100 students each will commence operations in the next academic year. Many middleclass and poor students, who want to pursue higher education in medicine, will be benefited with this move of the Government, he added.
