Politics AP Govt plans action against Opposition for bandh damages Our Bureau
Hyderabad, Jan. 26 HOLDING the leaders of Opposition parties in the State, especially the Telugu Desam Party chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, responsible for the huge losses caused by their activists to public properties across the State, following the murder of TDP legislator Mr Paritala Ravindra on Monday, the State Government is planning to initiate criminal proceedings. Announcing this at a press conference here on Wednesday, the State Agriculture Minister, Mr N. Raghuveera Reddy, however, said the Government was yet to ascertain the total losses suffered during the State bandh on Tuesday. "We are also evaluating legal options to recover the losses on account of violence and arson from the Opposition parties responsible. With the help of media clippings, especially the electronic media, the police have already initiated the process of booking criminal cases against persons responsible for damages to public and private properties," the Minister said. Nearly 600 buses belonging to the State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), reportedly suffered damages during the last two days. Unconfirmed reports estimated the total damages at around Rs 50 crore. The Minister, however, said the loss assessment process was not yet completed. While condemning the brutal murder of the TDP legislator, the Minister said violence and arson had no place in democracy. He also criticised the TDP President, who had earlier given a call for national debate on political violence, for personally directing the violence in the last two days across the State. The Government was also planning to display the burnt and damaged buses in public, he said.
