THE Girijan Co-operative Corporation (GCC) here has achieved a sales turnover of Rs 112.16 crore by the end of December and will easily cross the annual turnover target of Rs 130 crore, according to Ms T. Ratna Bai, new chairperson.

Ms Ratna Bai, who assumed charge on Thursday along with the other members of the new governing body, told newspersons that she would strive to improve the lot of Girijans and secure a good price for their products.

Several income generating schemes would be taken up to improve their living conditions. In particular, she said, she would focus on improving the lot of Girijan women.

Mr A. Vidya Sagar, Managing Director, said the GCC was aiming at a sales turnover of Rs 170 crore during the current financial year.

On procurement of tamarind, he said the arrivals had started and the crop may be better this year. Last summer, due to crop failure, there was scarcity of tamarind and the GCC had taken up market intervention.

The GCC had diverted its stock of seeded tamarind (1,200 tonnes worth Rs 2.5 crore) into the market through the Gruhamitra shops of the AP Civil Supplies Corporation. Besides, the GCC had also procured 1,500 tonnes of tamarind worth Rs 2.82 crore from Chhattisgarh. It was made available to consumers at Rs 10 per kg.

He said the GCC would organise a national seminar on minor forest produce in Hyderabad along with the National Institute of Rural Development.
