THE Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Thursday laid the foundation stone for Rs 13.75-crore railway bridge on the Pennar River.

The 750-metre bridge formed part of the 123-kilometre Yerraguntla-Nandyal railway line that was being laid. The Rs 164.36-crore railway line would connect several important towns in the region.

The new bridge, expected to be completed in the next two years, formed a vital link on the new line, connecting towns such as Jammalamadugu and Koilakuntla, a South Central Railway (SCR) spokesman told Business Line from Cuddapah.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated a few rail development projects worth Rs 2.20 crore at Cuddapah.

Dr Reddy, accompanied by his brother and Lok Sabha Member, Mr Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, inaugurated the remodelled Cuddapah Railway Station with improved passenger. The revamp cost Rs 1.6 crore.

He also inaugurated the remodelled railway station and VIP lounge at Muddanuru. The SCR spent Rs 60 lakh on this project.
