Hyderabad , Jan.27

RELIANCE Infocomm Ltd has tied up with the Department of Posts to deliver its pre-paid cards and vouchers across the State.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, the Chief Executive Officer of Reliance Infocomm (AP), Mr R. Balachandran, and the Chief Post Master General, Andhra Pradesh Circle, Mr T.S. Govindarajan, said this would be a win-win situation for both the company and the department. While Reliance will get a foothold in newer regions and access to over 16,000 outlets of the department located in some of the remotest places, the department would benefit since this falls within its ambit of business development tapping new streams of revenue.

It may be recalled that the department earlier this week announced a tie-up with the State-owned BSNL to market the latter's India Telephone Cards.

Mr Balachandran said the company subscriber base in the State is on the verge of hitting the one-million mark. The company has acquired over one-crore subscribers spread across circles in the country. "Given the current pace of geographical expansion, we plan to hit the planned addition of 295 cities before the financial year end."

"Since October 2004, the network expansion is under way and has increased from 104 towns to 207 now. With the programmed expansion, we would virtually provide pan AP presence not just covering cities and towns and villages dotting them, but also provide seamless connectivity along the highways and rail lines," Mr Balachandran explained.

Mr Govindarajan said "the business development team in the Department of Posts is looking to new avenues to enhance the overall business through various value added services. The revenues of the department in the State have constantly gone up from Rs 45 crore two years ago to Rs 60 crore last year and are projected to touch the Rs 90-crore mark this year. Thus far we have achieved Rs 78 crore in revenues."
