Our Bureau

KOLKATA: CESC Ltd has reported a higher net profit of Rs 32 crore during the three months ended December 31, 2004, compared with a net profit of Rs 15 crore recorded during the corresponding period of 2003.

According to a press release issued by the company here, CESC has notched a total income of Rs 554 crore (Rs 547 crore). The release states the increase in net profit was resultant from cost-reduction and cost-containment measures that had been taken along with volume growth offsetting the tariff reduction that took place in 2004-05. Reductions in interest and personnel costs and containment of other operational costs contributed significantly to the improvement in profits.
