Kochi-Kothamangalam road

Our Bureau

KOCHI: The Public Works Department has submitted a proposal to the Union Government to construct a four-lane road from Kochi to Kothamangalam as part of tourism and export development.

The proposal in this regard was submitted while considering the tourism potential in the northern parts of the district and also to help export units in the area. The funds generated from tourism and exports would be utilised by the Government for the construction of road.

The cost of the project is estimated at Rs 45 crore. However, the cost is likely to increase with the delay in sanctioning of the project. As per the proposal, the existing road would be widened and sharp curves on the road would be straightened. The width of the road would be 30 metres.

The road is widely used by tourists to reach Veegal Land, Thattekadu, Malayattoor and Munnar. Apart from development of tourism, several export units such as Kinfra and CSEZ would be benefited from the project.

The road will start from Palarivattom bypass and end at Kothamangalam Thangal Junction.
