Oil slick suspected in well at Kovalam

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Investigations conducted by the Mining and Geology Department following reports about the presence of oil in a borewell at Kovalam have ruled out the presence of crude oil in the area.

Analysis of water samples drawn from the well suggested that the greasy film on water surface could have originated from an oil slick in the sea near the coast. The oil could have entered the borewell through crevices in the underground rocks or the upper sandy layer.
