Railways Money & Banking - Credit Cards & Debit Cards Rail tickets thru Itz Cash card Our Bureau
Mumbai , Jan. 28 THE Indian Railway's marketing wing, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), has tied up with Intrex India Ltd, an Essel Group company, to enable railway ticketing through Internet using the multipurpose pre-paid Itz Cash card as a payment method. According to Mr Vinod Asthana, Group General Manager, IRCTC, this agreement will enable a large number of potential customers to buy tickets online, particularly those who do not own credit cards and poor people. "This will reduce congestion at the reservation office," he said at a press conference on Friday. Explaining the working of the card, which was launched in November 2003, Mr Gurpreet Bakshi, Head of Marketing, Sales and Distribution, Itz Cash card, said that this was the safest way to pay on the Internet and no personal customer details were required. Currently, the card is available in denominations of Rs 250, Rs 500, Rs 1,000, Rs 1,500, Rs 3,000, Rs 5,000, Rs 7,500 and Rs 10,000. It is available across the country through Asian Sky Shop, Playwin retailers, Dish T.V outlets, and India Times shopping portal. According to IRCTC, though 50 lakh railway tickets are booked every day, only a small part of total booking is done online, and online purchase is limited to big metros such as Mumbai and Delhi. IRCTC hopes that at least 30-40 per cent customers use the Itz Cash card in the next three to four years.
