Nabard sanctions Rs 373 crore for AP rural infrastructure

THE National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has sanctioned Rs 373 crore to Andhra Pradesh for implementing projects for rural roads, bridges and lift irrigation.

The loan assistance was sanctioned by the Project Sanctioning Committee of the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF), at its 75th meeting held in New Delhi on Friday, according to a Nabard press release.

The RIDF loan of Rs 300.44 crore was sanctioned for the construction of 313 roads and 28 bridges. The roads are expected to connect 1,885 km across the State, benefiting 1,824 villages. The bridges will connect 383 villages with a distance-saving of Rs 344 km.

Nabard also sanctioned funds for 45 roads connecting nearly 300 km in remote tribal areas. This is expected to benefit 481 tribal hamlets and link 177 marketing centres.

An assistance of Rs 72.25 crore has been sanctioned for implementing 23 irrigation projects in the districts of Adilabad, Guntur, Kadapa, Kurnool, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Nellore, Srikakulam, West Godavari, including the Tarakarama Lift irrigation scheme phase-2 in Krishna district. These schemes will help provide irrigation to about 32,500 acres.

These projects are estimated to provide 488.40 lakh mandays of non-recurring employment in the State.

With this, the total sanctions of Nabard to the State during the current fiscal have touched Rs 991 crore under the RIDF. The cumulative sanctions under RIDF amount to Rs 5,466 crore, with a disbursement of Rs 3,149 crore.
