Public sector banks

This refers to "PSB officials may be out of CVC, CBI purview" (Business Line, January 29). While it is true that flexibility and autonomy are required for PSBs to compete with the private sector, the proposal of the Centre to exclude indiscriminately all the PSB officials from the purview of CVC is undesirable.

The CVC has already taken into consideration the difficulties faced by the PSBs and has suggested that each bank may set up an ``internal advisory committee'' to scrutinise the complaints received in respect of bank officials. It has also been decided by the CVC that the decision on getting the complaints investigated will be taken by the Chief Vigilance Officer on the advice of the internal advisory committee of the banks.

Thus, the CVC has taken due care not to kill the initiatives of PSB officials to compete with private sector. The Centre's move to exclude the PSB officials from the purview of the CVC is, therefore, unnecessary.

C. Ramesh,

Keeramangalam
