Leather show to emphasise more on business this time

Our Bureau

Chennai , Jan. 31

THE International Leather Fashion Show 2005 will bridge the current fashion trends in skins and that anticipated for the coming spring and autumn/winter.

The trend in leather fashion is shifting from the rugged and showing signs of wear to the elegant in finish, according to experts. Pointers to the change have been the catwalks of Milan, where leather garments and accessories have been going classic and elegant, they say.

So, here too, on the ramp at the show coinciding with the 20th Indian International Leather Fair leading models will display this swing in style. Manufacturers of leather garments, footwear and accessories will cater to the theme - classic chic.

Manufacturers hope to mix more of business with the glamour and glitz of the fashion show this year.

With things going well for leather - the industry, which expects to conclude 2004-05 with a 20 per cent growth rate is anticipating more next year - the mood is buoyant. With a strong contingent of international buyers expected to attend the fair and the show, leather product exporters expect the fashion show to give an immediate boost to exports.

So, according to Mr Yavar Dhala, a member of the trade dinner and fashion show committee, the emphasis will be on business though glamour will not take a back seat, he said.
